Heres how to tell if you have a locking diff. locate silver plate with vin # on passenger side firewall under hood. Theres a trans. axle code if it ends with an A its not a locking diff. if it ends in V it is a locking diff. I just found this out from a friend of mine who does all the inventory at the junkyard I go to. Just thought this might be helpful with what he said even some autos have locking diff.s.

A locking diff. will spin both tires when launching and a regular will only spin one wheel most of the time.

Let's clear some things up here. The term is not "locking". True locking differentials lock to 100%. That's not the case in Nissan units. Nissan uses Viscous coupling limit slip differentials that will go up to about 25% lock. So if one wheel is spinning at a significant rate faster than the other, it agitates the viscous fluid. This in turn makes the fluid thicker and starts the process of sending some of the power to the other wheel(up to 25%)
