I have finally got more info on the "AAA Transmissions" VB Upgrade. It's actually AAMCO, but I kept callin' it AAA becuase I got it confused.

Anyways, here's some news about the VB upgrade ive been tellin' you guys about for 180.00...Turns out its a Trans-Go !!! Damn I was disappointed. They go into your valve body and drill some holes and replace the spring, nuts, bolts, ect. ...anyways I can see why it's 180 bucks installed. I don't know much about Trans-Go except that it's not as quality as others (Don).

I also asked about the Auto-->5spd. I printed out Harold's instructions and gave them to him. At first, with no knowledge, he told me 800.00 for the labor. But he STILL hasn't emailed back on what he would charge now that he knows about the max.

My friend just got a '95 SE 5spd. Same car as mine, lighter tho. (No system, rims, ect ) Anyways, he's got soo much pull in second gear! I'd beat him off the line, but he'd have me into second. It's just that way. Being in control of when to shift,@ a higher RPM's, resulting in POWER.

Both auto/manual have unique charactoristics about each one. If I do opt for the conversion, there WILL be things missed from the Auto.

If anyone wants to share their experiances/comments I could use the info.

Just a note. The 5-speed maximas have 4 gears that are not overdriven for economy. The autos have 3(?) gears that are not overdriven for economy. So the manuals have the advantage of self shifting but more importantly, they have the benefit of one more gear for torque multiplication. Having one more non-underdriven gear is probably the factor most responsible for him pulling on you.

What did you think? That AAMCO was secretly doing R&D for Nissan so they could be able to do a VB upgrade in the off chance that someone came by and asked about it?

There can be ONLY ONE!!!!!

The 4Gen 5-speed Maxima gearbox has only 3 gears that are not overdrives. 4th and 5th are both overdrive ratios. The numbers are ...
1st 3.285
2nd 1.850
3rd 1.206
4th 0.954
5th 0.759

What's wrong with the TransGo?

Why do you guys say the Transgo isn't as good as Don's vb upgrade? Does anybody have actual number to prove this? Thanks. Are you still considering it Craig?

Now about the actual “Don’s VB” mod. I’m VERY pleased with the VB, all that you have read is true faster and firmer shifts. Now I’m coming from a Trans-go kit which firm up the OEM shifts, but his VB took it a couple of steps more. For all those who are coming from a OEM VB to Don’s VB this thing will open your eyes the first time it shift to 2nd.

I had Trans-go and was satisfied, then I rode in a car with Don's and was like 'wow, this is even better, gotta have it' it rocks.

I am in NO WAY trying to cut in on Don's VB business, just letting people know that there is another manufacturer of Maxima VBs. www.levelten.com .

He's right. It's supposed to be a very high quality job. Like, one of the best if not THEE best. But, also costs more than Don's.

As far as going for a VB Upgrade, or a Conversion, I'm 50/50. Man I love the stick (NO pun intended ),but love the relaxing drive the auto can deliver. Level 10 VB Upgrade is pretty close up their with doing a auto-->5spd conv. ...buuuuuut much less complicated + time consuming.

Let me get this straight...

Don's is about $500 with an exchange, Level Ten is about $700 with an exchange but TransGo is $47 without an exchange? What am I missing.

TransGo is considered somewhat inferior (see earlier posts).
TransGo requires much more labor to install.

Yes, the transGo is supposively not as firm. The only thing that it has going for it is the cheap purchase price. $50 about.
