i noticed a strange noise when the heater fan is on. it sounds like rusty bearing somewhere. any way to check it out without taking the whole car apart.

where can i get the service manual Daniel B. alway refers to?

What you describe is a common problem in the 4th gen, and apparently has not been fixed for the 5th gen. The blower motor makes a ticking sound, most noticeable when the fan control is at "1" or "2". Nissan is aware of the problem because there are several technical service bulletins regarding the issue. The motor and housing can be found above the front passenger's footwell, behind the glove compartment. To fix, clear out any dry twigs or leaves that might be caught in the motor housing. If you don't find debris there, try lubricating the motor's bushings with a light oil.

Nissan factory service manuals can be bought (for around $100) from www.nissan-techinfo.com or from Dyment Distribution Services (800)247-5321.
