I think this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it so I'll just post it again. My starter motor has gone bad (when I start, there is a screeching noise) and I believe I need to replace it. Does anyone know a cheap place to buy? online. I think my local dealer gave me a quote for $350 or something for a rebuilt starter. I'm looking for either a brand new or rebuilt starter. Thanks.

You may use the on-line catalog of Web vendors to research parts prices. PartsAmerica.Com lists a WorldWide starter for $163 and a Bosch starter for $324. Add shipping/handling to both prices. Add a core charge (deposit) to both prices. The catalog does not explicitly state, but I believe both units are rebuilt. In my experience any item listed in the PartsAmerica catalog may be purchased from a local Advance Auto store for about the same money.

If you like to do your own "wrenching" consider repairing your starter motor. Go to http://www.motorvate.ca/ and scroll the right-hand window down until you see Starter Noise Fix. Click on that phrase and read how to do it.

This site is one of the best I've come across for detailed repair instructions and photographs. You may enjoy browsing through it.

I'd goto a local repair shop which deals with starters... they could probably fix it for a ton less...

I got my starter fixed for 70$ CDN and it runs great now...

or like Dan said... try fixin it yerself... didn't seem to hard when i watched the guy fix mine...
