ok so my maxima now has 76,000 miles on it and I've run 3 bottles of NOS through it and been to the track and street raced a good amout. You'd think that my engine would probably be worn more than most 4th gens with around 70K on them.

I sent an oil sample to blackstone labs to get tested. I ran Castrol GTX 5W-30 unitl my last oil change a little over a week ago when I switched to Synthetic Mobil 1.

the results came back today. My engine did VERY well. In all categories it is wearing average or even Below average in some...which I think is amazing. Whoever says that mods will shorten the life of your engine is full of cr@p. For my engine that gets beaten on on a regular basis, I'm very happy.

This just goes to show that when you keep up with all maitenence, and oil changes, even if you run your car hard...you're VQ will keep on kicking hard.

Congrats. You are now part of a small group that actually uses REAL test data to evaluate his oil and engine status.

I salute you sir!

I have a favor to ask now. In the future, when you see "my oil is black, therefore is worn out" posts, please join us in the multiple pimp slap replies please. lol.

Bill might be interested in your spreadsheet. PM him and ask if he wants it. He's building a database for everyone.

I'm that guy. I say that engine mods and the hard driving that goes with them will shorten the life of an engine. Your oil analysis results are encouraging. However some Maxima engines go 200K miles without a major repair. I'm not confident yours will. Keep in mind that an oil analysis is not predictive of (for instance) a blown head gasket.

BriGuyMax,

Sweet! Good to see another Max join the mix.

Here's what I need:

Driving habits
Miles/year
Brief oil history (what you've used, etc.)
Oil filter(s) used
Normal oil change intervals

Of course, the relevant values from Blackstone Labs.

You'll be added in to the spreadsheet in the near future.

I got mine back last week (not a Maxima though).

Amsoil 10w-30, 8000 miles, run through 40-50 autocross runs... viscosity is still within normal range @ 100 deg C, no traces of fuel or water, normal nitrogen% and oxidation %, no abnormal traces of elements in the spectrograph, etc etc.

basically, the oil is still damn good after 8000 hard driven miles

No Sprint, just every 2 minutes.

Actually, it was complete coincidence, but I found it anyway.

If your engine needs a full rebuild before 120K that would support my contention.
If it doesn't need the rebuild, why will you spend the money?

Good point. Mine is still running smooth as silk after 126k hard drivin, if modless miles.

By the time my car get's that many miles on it. I will have another daily driver. I want to learn how to rebuild an engine, and my good buddy is going to help me when the time comes. Maybe it will be a 120K or later, I can't really tell right now, but if I do have a major problem, I'll be prepared. Just like you, I avoid paying someone else to fix my car for me.
