I have a '95 gle with 60k miles on it. 5 yrs in OK and 1 yr in lake erie winter. So it is beginning to see a ton of salt on the road to combat 150" of snow!

I've waxed the maxima since it was new 2-3 times a yr. I've never used a prep on it since I was hesitant to use anything harsh on a new car. However, now there are stains and with the harsh winters I want to use a prep before waxing it. I wax it with meguairs gold class which seems pretty good so I was thinking of using their body scrub or quick clay bar. Which do u suggest? Also if I use the clay bar, should I use it over the whole car excluding bumpers and plastic?

The paint is still in great condition, shine is still there and want to keep it looking new without using anything harsh.

Thanks!

Get Mother's Clay Bar. It usually comes in a set with the spray wax (which is needed to "lube" the finish, haha) and a small bottle of wax. Should cost you at the most, $20.

It's done wonders for my car, and I'm sure others will agree that it's safe to use. Use it all over the car, or, your choice, the ones that feel the least smooth/slick.

BTW, welcome.

I agree. I have a 95 Artic white SE and I have used a clay bar on it before also. You will usually see dramatic improvements. You may however, need to go over some areas twice.

Clay bar is an awsome product and really recommand who has never used it before. You might not be able to lift up your hand after finishing but you will be amazed how you car will feel. When i did it the first time, i couldn't stop running my hands on the surface of the car. It felt like i just bought the car from dealership. Well give it a try and see it for yourself. hope this helps.

OK!OK..I¡¯m a ¡°been there done that¡± kind of guy..
I¡¯ve been using the ¡®bodyscrub¡¯ for more than 5 yrs on my cars and it worked pretty well UNTIL I found the Claybar!!
Oh Boy! This thing is amazing and so easy to use (saved my elbow grease, too)
I highly recommended this product! I paid $10 at the autozone.

Now, I¡¯ve a question for you guys, too!
After just one application the claybar looks like S*it.
Do I have to buy new one every time I use on my car or is it reusable?
Do I have to sore it in the sealed plastic pouch, too?
Please let me know!

The clay bar is the best 15 dollar investment you can make towards your paint job. I was absolutly amazed when i used it for the first time on my car.

Bought the meguairs clay bar from auto zone for $10 and spent about 45 minutes using it on the entire car. You guys are right! This stuff worked great! The paint is so much smoother and was surprised to see how much grime was left on the car. The clay bar to the paint is like using stridex pads to get ride of acne .

Now just need to spend another hour waxing the car with meguairs gold class. Figure it should rain the whole week since I've put 4 hrs into the car...

Thanks for the suggestions!

i got my clay bar from griots garage (www.griotsgarage.com). it was a bigger piece (8oz vs. 4 oz) than the blue clay bar that i got from pep boys and it comes in a plastic jar. it was $15.

as you use the clay, you should be kneading the bar as needed -- as the outside gets dirty, you should fold the bar over itself to expose more new clay surface. when the bar is too dirty, then you need to get a new bar. the clay from griots is yellow, so it is easy to see if it is dirty.
