My friend wants to race me in his 89 or 90 5spd Max. He has no mods, all stock. I have a 97 auto with only intake. Just wondering who would win??

The 3rd gens are the heaviest ones yet. If Im not mistaken, they didnt start to make the 190 HP engine until 1991, so you will be going against a car that is heaver than yours with only 165 HP. You will not loose.

you'll win...

4th gen auto should run in the 15s stock. a 90 5spd will be around 16.5

Just to correct 1/3there23/togo...

89-91 GXEs - VG engine - 160 hp only auto
89-91 SEs - VG engine - 160 hp 5spd and auto
92-94 GXEs - VG engine - 160 hp auto only
92-94 SEs - VE engine - 190 hp 5spd and auto

Only stock 3rd gen that can hang or beat a 4th gen is a 5spd VE, which can probably do 15.5.

and yes, 3rd gens are a few hundred lbs heavier then 4th gens.
