Everybody on this board is going to have there own opinion ont this question cause there are so many different kinds of waxes...One is mothers witch is a really good wax but doesnt last that long from my experience but it does give a great showroom shine...the wax I use is meguiars paste wax..I think it protects the best and last (I think) a really long time on the car and you can tell by the way the water beeds up and runs off !! good luck

But here goes..
Waxing is something that you should do to protect the finish, and that's all. Polishing will "clean" the paint and prepare the surface for the wax.
I have experimented with all kinds of polishes and waxes. Here is a good website to visit for the lowdown on all:
http://216.147.22.29/forum/index.php3

Now, to obtain the correct shine/luster/depth of your finish, you should polish first, then wax on top. After that, you'll only need to polish 2-3x's per year. For polishing, I used Pinnacle Paint cleansing lotion. It does a great job of removing minor swirls, and getting light stains out of the paint. It leaves a "squeaky clean" surface to wax over.
For Waxing, I have two favorites. Blitz One Grand and Pinnacle Paste Glaz. I use the Blitz One Grand right after the Paint cleansing lotion. The Blitz adds such a deep gloss, the paint looks almost wet, and it lasts a long time (about 1 month or 4 washes before I notice that the car is losing it's showroom shine) 2-3 days (or one week if the weather doesn't permit) I'll use the Pinnacle Paste Glaz. It will put additional shine in the paint, making the car look absolutely phenomenal!! The Paste Glaz doesn't last very long (2-3weeks max), but it only takes 10-15 minutes to do the car so you won't mind frequent applications.

Check out the website, and be prepared to read. Those guys are clean car fanatics..

Meguiers GOld here also. I usually put a double coat on, and on my Pearl White Max, the reflection is blinding. Lasts a while too. Make sure you clay bar the car for the best finish though! (Yes, it's worth it)

Is the liquid stuff waht your using? I used it this weekend and think it came out nice. Easy to apply and get off too. Better than older stuff of theres that I have used. Gotta pick me up a clay bar for my next time though. I have gheard they work great but never used one yet. Anyone got waxing techniques they find work out real well?

Clay Bars

Anyone use clay bars much? Are they tough to use? Any suggestions on who to go with for one?

I got the Meguiars Clay Bar Kit (9.99) It takes alot of elbow grease, and a hell of a sore wrist, but it takes things off that you couldnt even really tell was there. When I got done with the waxing, it felt like someone had coated the outside of my car in Teflon......It was worth the 4 1/2 hours to do it (both bar, wax and interior cleaning )

I like Mothers pure carnuba wax. I've also used Meguiars Scratch X to try and get rid of some small scratches and swirls. It works pretty well, but it is impossible to keep my black paint job looking perfect.

i use and highly recommend meguiars products. I normally use the gold class wax and twice a year use their 3 step process to clean the paint and remove contaminents. In most auto parts strores the bottles are labeled 1,2 and 3. This seems to work the best to protect the paint and hide scratches, and remove swirl marks.
