For those who may try this, i figured out what that whistle was and fixed it. It was the style of fitting i was using to connect the crankcase vent hoses to the new piping. They were sort of flared on when end and when the air was going through and across at the same time it made a whistle. I simply turned it around and threaded it in backwards, no more noise! Just to repeat, this is really easy to do, under 20 bucks, gives imho a seat of the pants low end boost, and clears up some space in the engine.
Glad to hear that you figured it out. I agree that it is definitely worthwhile. My car feels stronger, it is chirping of the line now if I floor it and it just pulls strongly all the way up. It's a little louder, but not obnoxious. The path from the ground to the filter is much clearer now. And I spent less than $10.
I only had to buy a foot of PVC for $.99. They cut it for me in the store. I spent about $.50 each for the sprinkler parts, about $3.00 for the rubber joining piece, another buck for the little brass piece for the vacuum hose, and $2.50 for glue, of which I used about $.10 worth. I was able to use the stock hoses. I don't know that it's louder at WOT, but I think the noise kicks in a little earlier in the rev range. It is a good sound though, similar to my grandpa's Continental.
