How much power does the cailitic converter rob from the engine? In NZ we dont have to have these fitted, all nz assembled cars dont have them. But since mine comes from japan where they do need them like you guys, it has one. Is it worth ripping it out?

I chopped mine, at the time I did it, that was the only thing I had done, along with a catback, I noticed a lot on the mid and top end. it also got a bit more loud. If you're gonna get a y-pipe, leave the cat on, if you're jus gonna gut out the cat and wait to get a new cat when you get a y-pipe, then do it, but don't run both no cat and a aftermarket y-pipe, it's loud as heck, i had to put a 36" glass pack along with some cheap 'hi flow turbo muffler' to get it to sound good, but now it sounds gr8! like really it deep, it's sounds nice.

hahah

that's pretty funny. Too bad MaineI30 doesn't visit this forum lol..

nah, but I heard of people loosing low end power running straight pipes, no cat..... especially with full exhaust...
I would think a high Horsepower, boosted car would benefit through out the powerband.

yeah, i racet this skyline that had an rb25de motor that was auto by rights he should have taken me (i have the vq25de) but because he was running a 2.5" exhaust with a straight through muffler it was really slow especially at low revs. but really really loud and it sounded like **** because it was really tinny, and it resonated a lot.
