I'm planning on getting new rims for my Max soon, and was going to get 17x7 w/ 225/45 tires, but I noticed that most of the Maxes on this forum have 17x8 wheels. How much extra weight do the 17x8s add, and is it worth the extra $10 or so per rim to get them?

Ask yourself this question

Is your priority performance, or looks?? A wider, heavier rim (17 x 8) will make your acceleration and braking harder, but the wheel will look better because it fills out the wheel well better.

If you get 17x7s, the car will still look better, but not as good as the 17x8s. Also, the acceleration and braking will be better than the 17x8s.

Get 17x8. Looks more like race-wheels, and better handling. They are .2 tenths of a pound each heavier than if I got 17x7's, but I guess cuzz of the width and physics...

But it's worth it. The loss would be so extremely small you won't notice.

What would the difference be between 17X8 and 18X8 performance wise? How much more would each wheels weigh?

Thanks

True, . . but

You are already experiencing a loss just going to 17x7 when you compare to a stock SE wheel which is 16x6.5. 17x8 increases the loss more.

is there a difference in ride quality with 215/50/17 (17x7) vs 235/45/17 (17x8)?

In my friends Honda he went from the 17's that came with it to slightly wider ones and i did feel kinda different. Not sure if it was mental or if it was because of surface area on the road.

Yeah, I noticed that with my 18x8s over stock 15s, acceleration is a bit worse and a lil' harder to brake as well. Though I like my looks and I hardly ever drag or anything. I guess I prioritize looks first, and I still beat a 3.2TL anyways, so... :P
