exhaust questions
well, Im gonna try this again. I need some info about the exhuast for my 96' gxe. I hear alot about b-pipes, y-pipes, cats, and cat-baks. I was just looking for a few details, Im very exhuast ignorant. Can I have a ypipe and a bpipe? and what exactly do y and b pipes do for the exhuast? Anything you can offer is greatly appreciated and thank you for your help.

This is you exhaust coming off the exhaust manifold (2) on the engine: Y-pipe--Cat Converter--B-pipe--muffler.
The factory y pipe has 2 pre-cats, those, along with the shape limit air flow. Replacing the y-pipe will simply open your exhaust up, it eliminates the pre-cats. The cat is an emmisions device that also somewhat restricts airflow. A high flow cat (Randaom Tech) again opens things up a bit. A cat back exhaust is a b-pipe and muffler (Apex also refers to a a-pipe as part of the system.
Performance wise the y-pipe will probably make the biggest difference, and the most noise. A cat and cat back exhaust will add some to performance also, and some to the sound. All three will give you substantial gains.
Hope this helps....
