I'm selling my 97's head unit over on the classified board but I have some questions about the BOSE system as a whole.
1) Are there really 4 AMPs (one for each speaker area)?
2) Will my AWIA CDC-MP3 (with two sets of pre-outs) plug in just fine with a harness?
3) are there regular speaker wires that go directly to these amps?
4) I like the sound of my BOSE speakers? is it really worth upgrading them (apart from adding a sub to the car)?
thanks in advance for clearing up my myths about this system...

Not sure.. (some info)
Yes.. the Bose system employs a 4 amp systems. Every speaker has its own amp. As far as wether or not you will have to replace them.. I'm not 100% sure.. but I know for the 3rd gen you could get a converter (Scosche(sp?) makes one) so that you can use the speakers, so it would seem that you can get a similar setup for the 4th gen. Just go to a shop and they'll tell you... but I'm sure someone on the board will confirm this.
Hope that helps.

adapter
If your're putting in a new headunit and keeping the speakers, you'll need some kind of adapter to keep things from getting fried. Several different companies make them, including Precision Interface Electronics. You can also call up Crutchfield to get one. There are a few others people have mentioned that I can't remember.

If you want to use your AIWA
Just get the Scosche interface from http://www.crutchfield.com, actually, call them and they will give you the right one to order. Then you can just wire your deck to the harness and plug in to the BOSE. Thats what I have and it sounds fine. The speakers in the BOSE system are good, it's the Clarion head units that they mated them to that suck.
