Charge and Break lights go in and out...
I have a '95 Maxima GLE. I have this weird problem where after running my enging for a while, my brake and charge lights come in and out. What I mean by this is lights turn from dim to bright on and off. It seems to directly corelate to my gas pedal. My dealer, without looking, states that it's an alternator.
I took it to autozone, and the guy said after playing with the butterfly, that my amp was only 30 or so and it should be 125. From what I read, 30 amps at 2000 rpm is OK. But I'm not a mechanic, and nobody talks about this stuff in detail so I have few ideas, but I'm not sure...
1. Worn belt? Maybe the belt is slipping at higher rpms? But I don't hear any squeals.
2. Bad alternator?
3. Wiring problems?
Any ideas? What throws me off is the break light. I do not have ABS, and I wondered if there was something funky with the break lights on Maximas...
:-(
