For those with mesh grilles
For those with mesh grilles
I have a question for those who installed the mesh grille. how did u install the mesh grille in teh bumper inserts. I have the mesh inserts and ties but i need to get behind the bumper to make sure hte ties are securely fastened and i cant get behind the bumper, i look under the car and there is something covering the bottom of the car with rusted out bolts so it wont let me get behind the bumper to secure the ties.
i hope this makes sense, i dont see any way else for me to put the ties in unless i get behind the bumper
thanks,
g max

im assuming you are talking about a 97+ max...
just take off the splash guards (those things with the rusted on bolts) they arent too important. hell if you want, just take off the front most bolts and bend back the two plastic splash guards while you slide in your mesh.
take them off, then slide the mesh in.
use zip ties on the vertical plastic pices that go up and down on the bottom of your bumper.
i used black zip ties for a ....black car.

Re: k
I put in my metal mesh on my 1997 maxima where a valance part would go ( under the license plate, between the oem fog lights ).
Just unscrew the 6 rusty bolts under the bumper and bend back the black covering. You might want to put a couple of boards under the wheels to get a higher lift in the front.
After that just cut out the piece u want and put it under the grille...if its already cut and came with **** to hold it in, then just put it in. On my car i didn't use any clips or such to hold it...i just customized the shape of the mesh and bent it under the bumper to hold...and its been holding tightly since monday 9/17/2001...and i've been on the hwy 3 times this week picking up speeds to 80-90mph while going on turns, and bumps, and its holding fine.
So im satisfied.
hope it helpz.

This is great info, but I just have a question. How do you get to the area where the radiator is? Did you guys make one big mesh that fits the bumper, the fog light area and the radiator area, or were they 3 different pieces?
My main concern is how to get to the radiator area? and what to attatch the zip ties to?
Thanks

another solution
First off, just rip out those screws and take out the splash gaurd, you can always get more screws, and it's the easiest way to install the grill. I don't know if anybody else has tried it, but I just used a fiberglass/plastic glue on my little home depo'd grills, and they've held just fine for about 2 months.

I got mesh everywhere on my 97 for the lisence plate, take out the black thing and cut your mesh and then reinsert black thing and screw down mesh. i left the side just hanging
For the bottom, I opened this plastic guard 3 screws for each side, put the mesh in and brace it by the screw
Its a ghetto way
but it never came apart after rain
My mesh isn't secured.
I just cut it a little extra, like 1" all the way around, and bent it in, so I slide the mesh inside the openings, and its own pressure keeps it secure. Its never fallen out or moved due to air at high speed. And its nice an flush with the contour of the bumper.
