I'm glad you brought up this topic man. I love talking about the conversion. Harold, the guy who instructions your seeing, did this conversion for the freakishly low price of like 400 bucks. It'll be like $400-1,000 for a tranny, then like another 1,000 for labor. But then you sell your automagic tranny. It can be done, it's not that hard to do. It just takes an unbelievable amount of work and labor. That's where you pay the big bucks.

I hope you realize the conversion requires many more parts than only the transmission. Go to http://www.stormpages.com/autoto5spd/ to see the parts list.

That, and do ANY of you have ABS. The controller is in the way, so unless you have MAJOR skills, this isn't going to be easy.

Why???

I'm all for the 5spd Maxima's, however, I don't understand why you wouldn't just sell your auto Maxima and buy a 5spd. I was going to do a 5spd conversion as well, but after further research I learned that you're paying any where from $500-1500 to depreciate your car $1,000. Automatics re-sale value can be 800-1100 dollars more than stick. Therefore, if you pay $1000 to do the conversion, it's really costing you 2 grand in the long run. But if you do decide to do the conversion, good luck!

I plan on keeping MY Maxima for another 6-7 years. It's mine to have fun with. By then who cares what the resale value is. All I know is that this will be my car for a LOOONG time, so I might as well fix it up to please me, right ?

You don't mod a car for resale value. I plan on keeping this car, so the depreciation means zero.

O, right on man. That's cool. Just for me, I tend to look at most big purchases and expenditures from an investment stand point first, but that's cool that you'll be holding the car for a while, so yeah, of course you should have fun. Good luck with everything bro, let me know how it turns out.

I agree. Take the chance to try things. My theory is that if you don't do something today, you might not be around to do it tommorrow.
