are you nuts?

How in the hell did you manage that? Holly Crap! Without a complete engine swap and custom EVERYTHING there is no way a neon can beat any 3rd gen or up!

if you can't up to him then there is something wrong w/ your car, but I autoX and I see a modded 2 door neon (driven by a woman) who is getting the times that are very equivelent to my 95 maxima, so I wouldn't diss neons, you'd be surprised what those cars can do sometimes.

I raced a V8 stang,

, a brand new GT. I stayed right with him. He was kinda P-O'd. From 1 light to the next we agreed and by the light I was at his rear panel.

They're slow stock...but remember, for the price we pay for our maximas, someone can buy a neon and mod it out to the **** with a turbo kit or NOS, or both...remember its a first gen so it probably cost $4000-6000.

-=NEON=-

I know that Neon are actually really fast. I've seen many many Neons hit 11's in 1/4 miles with ease. You just never know what you can do to those cars. I'm not saying everyone if fast but they have a real good modding potential.

I think the 1st gen Neons shared the same engine as the previous gen Eclipse. He must have had a turbo in it....

There are a few really fast Neons out there. However, most Neons you see in the street are slow. Getting beat by a Neon isn't unbelieveable. If you lost to a stock Neon though, you should be ashamed. Even a mildly fixed up Neon shouldn't give you much trouble. Unless the Neon is really highly modified and/or has FI. It's not completely unbelieveable.

Everyone is throwing around how slow they are and I would agree. But any idea what a first gen neon like the one he is talking about has for like 1/4 times? Just curious to compare to his.

Why is that hard to believe? Anything can be fast these days. Does anyone have the Oct issue of SCC? They have a WHOLE secton for jsut Neons. Go take a look at their aftermarket support and tell me what you think then.

@ Maxus, there were 2 Neons running faster then 80% of the Maximas there.

I just one this weekend that ran low 12's. Ya, that may be fast but IT'S A NEON!!! Reliable they are not. I got a buddy with a first-gen Neon that uses a quart of oil a week and the Chryler shop says there's nothing wrong with it. I want a well built car that I can run all the time with little problems. Ya so they can be made fast, so what. I saw a Festiva in SCC that was all modded up, putting down 170 fwhp or something. All fine and dandy but, IT'S STILL A FESTIVA! Like Synki said, anything can be made fast these days. Some investments are just smarter/safer than others.

I always used to bash on Neon's too. Then my friend impressed me with his ACR Neon that runs 14.5s. It's N/A and has practically every bolt-on. It's quick, it's geared for all low and mid range. On the highway, I can pull on him pretty easily but on the street we're pretty even. A great deal of Neons out there are slow, but keep an eye out for the quick ones. They'll surprise you.
