Optimal shifting
#1
I have a '98 Maxima SE (stock), and I was wondering if anyone has any specifics as to where the optimal shift points are for quick acceleration. I have been competing with a friend of mine for the best 0-60 time. I’ve only done a few runs, and I have been dropping the clutch at around 3k, and shifting at around 5k. It seems that my car performs best between 3k-5k RPMS. Any information is appreciated.

Optimal shifts
Yeah. 3K gives too much wheelspin. Also, even though the Max loses power a bit after 5K RPM, because of the gear ratios, it is still better to wind it all the way out in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. Take it to Redline, man! In 4th past 120 you might want to shift little early to 5th, you feel the power loss a little more up there.

I agree
When I drop the cluch past 2k rpms my tires start jumping uhhhhh but if you drop it some where between 1700 and 2000 that is the best lunch youu can get from 2nd to 3rd I would redline now in 3rd to 4th about 6300 and 4th to 5th around 5600 at around 115 or 120 mph this seems to work the best for me

GOOD Lord they are all right!!Dropping the clutch
past 3,000 is all wheelspin
To get the best performance -gradually realease the clutch as you feel the power come on.
Starts at about the 1,800 rpm maybe slightly more.
As you rev the engine gradually release the clutch
It should catch at about 2-2500 then floor it..
Clutch should be tottaly out by 3,000 to 3,500.
Hang on.
You'll know if you did it right because your competition will wain in the rearview mirror.
Yes this is hard on the clutch - as is everything- rush hour- city traffic- normal driving etc.-
IT IS WORTH IT! - and clutches are sturdy enough to take it.
Even stock.
