Door-guard strips fading???

Sorry I don't know exactly what they're called, but they are the body-colored strips on the side of the doors. Mine have started oxidizing and fading white. What's strange is that its only the top half of the passenger's door, and the top half of the rear left door. What's up with that?
Anyways, I want to put some vinyl over it, but what color do you think I should get? My choices would be bright red (not color of car), white, or black (maybe carbon-fiber but it would look so cheap).
Thanks in advance,
Cyrus

But...

If you shave your moldings you will have to repaint all 4 doors! The moldings leave marks/holes too big, unless you have vinyl graphics or something...

The same thing is happening to my 98 max. All of the rubber moldings are turning from black to white. Nothing seems to help stop this and it looks terrible. The intense sun and heat must just eventually take its toll.

It wouldn't cost cost much to have them fixed! You could even take them off yourself and bring your gas door for a color match.

They are cheap material. The paint wears off them no matter how much you wax them.

Are you kidding? I used to work at a detailer - I have my car waxed and detailed every month ... and it helps none. I don't know what it is, maybe a Nissan factory error (put too much oxygen in paint or something)... it makes the car look old and in bad condition (which it isn't)
