motor cranks..but got a prob..need help

hey all

we got the trans up today and all electrical stuff hooked up. We cranked it initially to get the oil circulating. Only to discover oil is not circulating. I pulled the oil press sensor out and only a couple drops came out. We cranked it with it out and no oil came out...Is this the proper way to see if there is oil press? is there another way? thanks! man....we're REALLY discouraged...

Engine oil, lots of it, should come out. Something is wrong.
- you removed the wrong sensor
- there is no oil in the sump
- the oil pump is broken
- the oil pump pressure relief valve is stuck open
- the oil pickup is broken or clogged

Location of oil pressure relief valve

You might say it is in the oil pump. For further information please refer to the Chilton repair manual (page 3-39) or the Haynes repair manual (page 2B-18).
