Perhaps a leaf fragment or a bit of paper has got into the air duct and is touching the blower wheel. This is somewhat like the child's trick of clipping a card to his bicycle fork so that it hits the spokes to make a sound which mimics a motorcycle engine.

Removing the blower motor is a job which may be done by the home mechanic. This procedure is covered in the Chilton repair manual (page 6-8) and the Haynes repair manual (page 3-8).

same prob

I have the same problem, it is driving me crazy. I think it is comming from the passenger side. There is some kind of white plastic thing under the dash on the pass. side. But it is def. the A/C. i might have to take it to the A/C guys to figure it out, unless you guys find out what it is first.

yes yes...same prob here. It seems to be coming from the passenger side. Very annoying sound like the card in your bike spokes sound mentioned before. I hope its just some leaves caught in the fan. Any suggestions fellas?

If all of us have the same problem then it might not be leaves.

I think you're all crazy.

No, really, it could be leaves... those things have a tendency to fall from trees around now.

Perhaps someone with the noise should take the fan out and see what's inside

The blower motor is located just above the passenger's feet. You could try giving the blower a (gentle) kick to see if it changes the symptom. This is suggested as a diagnostic measure, not a remedial one. If the motor is going bad or there is trash accumulation inside the duct, that blower has to come out.

Thanks for the advice DBM. When I started my car this afternoon and turned on the Climate Control I didn't hear the noise, suggesting that it is/was something caught in the blower. If the noise starts again i'll try the kicking thing and see what happens. I'll keep u guys posted.

P.S.
If that works I'll go around and kick everyones' blower absolutely free. Better than paying a nissan dealer 70 bucks an hour to do it.

solution to the problem?

just some info for my bros, I had the same problem with my 99 Max, clicking noise coming from passenger side vent, took it to dealer, they said almost all maxes have this problem sooner or later there's some sort of clip in the vent that was poorly designed and it works it way loose. The dealer said Nissan had "quietly" sent out a solution to the problem, a better designed gadget so the dealer replaced it and so far it seems to be working, definitely not as loud as it was....the thing I noticed most is how loud the damn fan is from the outside of the car when the AC is on.

Cool, but I don't want a solution that makes it quieter than it was before. I wan the noise coming from my passenger side to be eliminated completely. Also, how much did the dealer charge you? I talked to my friend who used to work for Nissan and he said if it is something caught in the fan or anything minor he'll charge me 10 bucks.

try using an air compressor and blowing around and seeing if it knocks whatever it is loose.
