Need suggestions with what to do with my brakes.....
Okay guys, my squeaking has gotten to my last nerve and I've decided to go ahead and get some new brake pads, at the least. While doing several searches, I am now thinking about maybe a brake upgrade (new rotors, pads, SS brake lines). I know that Phoung (sp??) is selling a brake kit for $540 (Stillen front and rear cross-drilled rotors, Axis MM pads front and rear, and Goodridge SS brake lines. Now Nissan quoted me like $340 just to replace my front pads (they are their best quality pads) and machine my front rotors...basically doing a front brake job. Do you guys think I should invest the extra $200 in upgrading my brakes?? How much should install be on new kit if I were to order this kit?? Anybody know of a better deal on this stuff?? Sorry for all the questions...and I know there are several threads on brakes, but they haven't exactly answered all my questions. Also Bill, you're posty note has helped tremendously on this issue....thanks man.

or better yet...
do it yourself... it's not that hard and should run you no more than 120$ for all 4 brake pads. Another thing I'd suggest is getting your rotors resurfaced. Your average mechanic shop should do this for no more than 10-15 bucks per rotor. All you need is the basic mechanic tools, and a large C-clamp you can find at pepboys, autozone or any hardware store. You'll save yourself a load of $ and have that satisfaction of working on the car yourself

duration of the pads
I was just wondering about you guys-- how long did your initial set of OEM brake pads last you? I know the front ones don't last as long as the back ones.
I notice that my back ones are in fairly excellent condition but the front ones are about half gone now. These aren't new OEM pads. I had them changed around 25K when I bought the car used--car now has 36K but because they didn't put in OEM Nissan pads (got some other brand)--they squealed for the last 10K...
has anyone noticed the difference--ie. no more squeals after having th OEM pads replaced and rotors resurfaced?
thanks

My dealer charged me around $300 for a brake job too.

My front pads were gone by my 30,000 mile check-up...so Nissan replaced them under a deal they had for $99.00 front brake job. Later i find out that they put some piece of $hit pads on my car...causing lots of squeaking. right now im at 45K miles and am ready to switch out my pads b/c the front brakes are causing wayyyy to much noise. I'm still debating whether to upgrade or just go back to nissan and get some quality OEM pads and get my rotors resurfaced. im still waiting on some more feedback from you guys!!!

Hey sachin I did the labor myself, but I got all of my parts for $500. I put in Axxis pads front and rear and Goodridge SS lines from Phuong. I bought slotted rotors and speed bleeders from fastbrakes.com for $245 (I think his price is higher now).

The reason they look silver is because they are cad plated. The friction surface loses its cad plating where the pads touch, but overall the rotors still look silver. The rotors also seem to rust less than stock rotors and don't always appear to be so brown like stocks do. I'll have to take pictures later on to show the rotors with wear on them.
