2nd thoughts about a lightened flywheel

I'm having 2nd thoughts about lightenin my flywheel. First off, it could shatter. Secondly, is the gain really that significant?

Someone calculated that replacing the stock [steel] flywheel with the Stillen aluminum flywheel is like removing 120-lbs of weight from the car, which is good for a reduction of about a 10th of a second or so in the quarter. I hope to have all my stuff installed next week. I'll evaluate the new rig on the butt dyno, and let you know. As soon as I break-in the clutch, I'll head out to the track and open it up...

Re: 2nd thoughts about a lightened flywheel

I got many miles on mine w/ no problems. Consider how big the flywheel is, then consider how small a crankshaft pulley is. Which do you think would make more of a difference?

I'm not in my math mood right now so I don't feel like making any calculations

Lightening a stock flywheel by 1-2 pounds will make a difference (how much? I don't know til I do the calculation) but it definately won't the same as a chromoly or aluminum aftermarket unit.
