Fellas, can anybody shed some intuition on my 97 SE automatic? I've noticed lately that when I am stopped in DRIVE with my foot on the brake, then let go, the car barely responds immediately and moves forward (maybe 3mph). When it was new, I would let off and it would respond quickly and idle run at about 6-8 mph. There is no rough idling or stalling, just a slllooowww start. Have 67k...is this because it's old?

 

Sounds like you are starting off in second, its this happening during a California stop? If it is only when you do one of those, it is normal.
