(Friend) Eclips GSTwith Nitrous vs Trans Am, and Maxima (Me) me watchin and raceing

Eclips GST
Specs:
Nitrous and Factory turbo

Trans Am
Specs:Nitrous

Maxima
Specs intake, (Greddy SP comming soon)

My friend with the eclips had put the nitrous kit in one day before the race with the Trans Am I was just going to try to keep up and watch the race we were lined up and we all went. I guess he didnt warm up the car and put the shots of nitrous too early and all of the sudden his car got on fire nitrous melted his piston rings and also leaked in to his oil pan and blew out his oil pan does anyone know what he did wrong

You answered your question. If he had a wet/direct NOS setup, then the detonation probably did it in. That's the problem with NOS, when things go wrong it really goes wrong.

He probably forgot to use capitalization and punctuation when he asked for advice on how to install his nitrous setup.

Just as you said, he probably hit the nitrous too quick. He probably had the switch armed and slammed the gas. The Micro Wide Open Throttle switch was triggered the momment he slammed the gas injecting the NOS before he reached 3000 rpm. Very hazardous to an engine to use nitrous below 3000 rpm.

You can still be at wide open throttle below 3000 rpm.

He could use some work on it though. What is wrong with buying an Eclipse?! Im going to sell my max and get a talon that is running a 13.2! Add 20g turbo upgrade and 3" exhaust and big intercooler and hello 12.2 Isnt that what the fastest maxima is running? Oh...then I'll have to add NO2...lets say a...100 shot? Hellow 11.3.

it was a joke.

Then again, Eclipse's are known for their unreliability, poor manufacturing standards, and bad bad crash testing. I know three people that have eclipse's and they've been nothing but nightmeres. One has a turbo'ed spyder (98) and has dumped about 5k into it for repairs already. I've never seen a worse car for driving on rough roads. hit a pothole, even a smaller one...and it's alignment time. That's one thing I love about my max...I hit a pothole so damn big it made the rim make this huge "booooinnnnngggg" noise...and I can still drive it down a stright road without my hands on the steering wheel. I used to work for a junkyard, and I've seen some very scary after crash eclipses....dashboards shoved right into the passenger seat quite a few times......I think they're nice looking cars, but I was scared off of them based on my personal knowledge. That may not be the general consensus, but it's mine, and i'm sticking to it

As far as being fast....Civics can be fast too, still dosen't make me want one

I see where you are comming from, didnt mean to flame. It would cost a ton more for a civic to hit the 11's than for a DSM....it would take yet even more $$$ for a max to get there. Im all about speed...and everything else comes in second.

Kirk

P.S. The reason for the alignment thing is because of the 205/65/15 tires on our car. With that sidewall nothing can hurt it...plus the fender gap borrowed from a 2500 dodge ram. - not trying to flame...come on, you know its true

To this forum, maybe. But I'm no newbie to discussion forums in general -- usenet, web, whatever. One common thread among them: people who don't make an effort to communicate properly aren't usually taken seriously.

I was a lurker a couple weeks ago, but am a newbie again for some reason. Not that I really care.

If you think getting a DSM into the 11s is as easy as "slapping on" parts and nitrous, you are sadly mistaken. Hope you like to replace broken parts.

I know what happened... He thought he was in The Fast and The Furious, put too high a jetting in his car, didn't do any tuning, ran it, detonated, and blew his engine. Gotta pay to play, but sometimes people make stupid mistakes...

What is crankwalk? He wasnt opening it up much, just a accelerating on the throttle when the rpm's jumped up to 4 and back down to about 3200...car didnt lurch or anything, just felt smooth acceleration. I think its the clutch...but not sure.

crankwalk happens when the 2nd gen DSM the crank litterly walks.. usually due to over boosting..

Didnt feel any vibrations though...should we have fent any? He was only running 16 psi that day. What would cause it to walk?

Thanks for the help, we are both clueless on what happened.

I have to agree. My friend's Eclipse was constantly braking on him. It was fast though, running consistent 11.3sec. If it wasn't the engine, it was his drivetrain. He broke heavy duty f+r axles and burned drag kevlar clutches. He drove to the strip but often left on a trailer.

11.3 sounds good to me...and Im at 6000 feet...so that would be around a 10.5 at sea level when I get it set up?

My friend will be ****ed when I slap around his 13.2 baby. It doesnt bother him nor I to replace parts to go that fast...but he isnt running that much boost yet...Im still confused on why it reved

16 psi of boost (on a stock turbo nonetheless) with a nitrous setup also? i'm guessing since he had a stock turbo, he had stock internals. not that it would make a huge difference, but it's only safe to run stock internals to a certain degree. i definitely agree with the comments on running nitrous under 3,000 rpms. i wouldn't start below 3,500 even. anyways, sorry about the car. unfortunately he learned how dangerous it can be to not be cautious with nitrous.

Hehe...just cant hide my pride is speed Im looking at a '95 Talon TSI AWD running a 13.2 at 6000 feet. He wants $9700 but Im sure I can talk him down from that. If his price comes down I might have it in about 2 weeks. Then its on to some serious mods for it...18G ported and cliped turbo with internal wastegate, new fuel system, ported and polished engine...much more to come
