Auto tranny shift from 1 > 2 is rough!

I've seen people bring up the 3 > 4 shift being rough on their auto tranny. I don't have that problem, but:

My 1 > 2 auto gear shift seems rough, at times, the car has a slight jerk. It's not substantial enough that I'd call it a violent jerk or shudder, but definitely something noticeable.

Every other upshift (2>3, 3>4) and even downshift (including 2>1) seems fine. I don't think it's the dropping resistor (haven't checked it), because the problem seems to lie only in 1>2 shift.

Any ideas?

TQ.

That will make the 'jerk' MUCH more pronounced.

so have i! except tonite.. it was windin her out and at the 1-2 shift i put it to the floor, and i noticed that it wasnt harsh at allll! veeery smooth, im not sure why, i did jsut get gas, but i think that has nothing to do with.. also while we are on trannsmission... lets say im goin 35, then i floor it, rpms go to 6000 then after a sec, vroom there goes the car.. im pretty sure thats a sign of transmission wear.. i have like 120,000 miles also. tranny fluid help? what about tranny cooler?

Don't expect Nissan auto trannies to be silky smooth like Toyota... You should have seen my 3rd gen Max, rough shift is not even a way to describe it, felt like everytime I was going from 1st to 2nd someone rear ended me.. My 98s auto tranny is a LOT smoother then the 3rd gen, even after the 3rd gen was rebuilt but still there is that rough kick. To minimize the roughness of the shift, try a tranny flush if you haven't done it in like 50k miles. I'm going to have mine flushed

Actually, my 3-4 and 4-3 shift is very smooth. 1-2 tends to be a "jerk", but the 2-1...don't even ask...it's horrible. But it's been that way since new, so I guess it's normal. I've been spoiled driving a V6 Camry before my Max...that car has the smoothest transmission in the world.

yep! Toyotas in general are smooth as a baby's a$$ My friend has a 92 V6 Camry with 100k miles on it, tranny is smoother then any maxima i ever drove. My brothers Toyota Corolla is the same way, it's actually smooth to downshift when pushing it hard, not that hesitant rough jerk our cars make when you punch it.

BTW, I see in your sig your Dunlop SP5000s only lasted 25k miles??? What the heck? I thought they are rated high in terms of thread wear? hmm. Did you push the car hard? autocross? burnouts? I'm just wondering, soon i'll be getting rims and this was my primary tire choice as a good all season tire at a somewhat affordable price.

thanks

our shifts are harder cause we got so much of that raw power, our trannys just cant take it..

Don't worry, all 4th gens seem to have that hard jerk from 1-2, especially in the morning. Mine is silky smooth after 10 min of driving. Get a tranny flush and it'll be less noticeable in the morning.

jerk is normal.. hmm my car does that alot before, now it stopped. has it anything to do with oil change and tune up?

also, i had a problem before when i make a 90% turn and floor the pedal, my car wouldnt accelerate, but the RPM goes up. now it doesnt do that anymore.. hmm weird..
