You need to drill a hole and the fit a (can't think of the word) grommit or something in the hole to take up the extra space. They are made to fit the size hole you drill and wire you run.

...I think.

The purpose of the grommet isn't to take up the extra space. It's to prevent the insulation of the power wire from being worn away by the sharp edge of a drilled firewall. Best case, your main fuse at the battery blows and you have to replace it and the wire. Worst case, you weren't smart enough to have a main fuse, and your car goes up in smoke.

In my automagic 95 gxe, there is already a hole drilled into the firewall. But then again, I think that's where the clutch is supposed to go.

But the other way is to what thrustinj suggested. Drill a hole.

BriGuyMax told me of a hole very near the extreme driver's side of the firewall, you have to take your fender liner out to get at it he said.

Might as well go for the one that is already there. I mean why add more if you dont have to? Also get the gromet to fill in space and also to protect the wires from rubbing against the metal and cutting. My friends amp was killed by this once because it shorted out by connecting there.
