I've got an interesting little problem... but I'm really not even sure it's a problem. I have a 96 auto GXE with basic mods, and I just recently noticed something with my idleing. In park, I idle at about 950 (same in neutral), but in drive, I sit at about 700. Is this normal? and if not... what should be done to fix it? is it really important? Thanx for any help you can offer.

 

Is the car warm when sitting? If not, then that is normal.

i have a 97 automatic and my idle is about 725-750 at idle. normal is 725-800 i think. honestly, i think in D it is fine.

but the other seems high to me. let you car warm up. then turn on the a/c in park the idle should bog down to about 600 and then return to 750 or so, but not over 800. let it run for about a minute and then turn the a/c off the idle should peak up and then back down to about 750 or so.

the reason for this is, if it works as above then your car is operating normally. if not your idle adjustment on your throttle body may be off.this way you will put your engine under load while still in park and remove the load while still in park.

 

This is after my car is completely warmed up. With the ac on in park the idle sits at at least 850. What can be done to bring this to a normal level? I'm hoping DBM will happen to view this and give me his all mighty answer (sorry everybody else... but he really is good at this stuff).

 

do a search, what your looking for is the idle adjustment screw on your throttle body. it has been talked about 3/4 weeks ago. i am at work if nobody has given you a better answer i will look it up in my factory manual and give a better description.
