Odometer problem

My odometer stopped working, but my speedometer is working. The dealership quoted me $450 to fix the odometer, which makes my stomach turn. To replace one plastic gear is $450! I can buy a used guage cluster, but can I changed the miles on the used one to the milage on my broken one so it is at least somewhat close and honest?

i do not think so, because if you replace cluster it is still in computer your original odometer and u could be busted for fraud they do not care what your reasons are.

so u better pay up $450

I don't plan on selling my car, so I could care less about the fraud issue. I just want to know if it is possible to change the milage myself so I have an idea of how many miles are on it and so the trip meter works.

you can change miles on odometer but you cannot change miles in computer. only dealer has codes to computer to change miles.

i had the same prob, i bought a new cluster from bosco on this board
but its about 8,000 miles more than i have on the car , just wait someone will have one for sale, btw is there an easy way to change the milage to what i really have? I have never done this before
but you are right my dealer wanted $350 for a new gauge just the gauge
not even the whole cluster that i got for like $140 now i have spares
of the others, if i see one i will let you know btw check ebay

why would have a problem with fraud if we want to set it to the correct mileage?
