95 max NOS/ECU question

i heard from my friend that you can't spray a '95-up maxima without getting the ecu reprogrammed. i was wondering the reliability of this theory.

thanx! my boss (ironically) told me he'd sell me his 75-horse, wet system off his '98 supra. he said he didn't need it anymore. (personally, i don't think he needed it to begin with!!)

I wouldn't recommend using a wet NOS system with the Maxima's long intake runners. Get a dry system instead. With a wet system you can get fuel puddling in the manifold and have an intake manifold backfire, you also have less control over the amount of fuel going to each cylinder, so the chance of running lean is greater. Good luck.

thanx. i know minimal about nitrous oxide. i've never used it personally, but i have seen what it will do to a '95 cobra air box.
(my neighbor had one. blew a box about every 5th pass. i think his clutch foot worked faster than his thumb!)

anyway, you think a 75-shot is okay, or maybe "pill" it down to a 50? my car is STOCK!! no intake, no exhaust, nothing as of yet (except for a switch to turn on the fan. it's hot in MS at the tracks, you know.)

um...what about an air-fuel gauge? think i'll need one before i spray? i plan to get one anyway, i just don't know if it's neccesary at this point.

It depends. If you're running an aftermarket ECU (ie JWT) that has advanced timing, it is not recommended to juice it with this setup. You want to retard the timing.

If you're running a stock ECU and stock injectors, there is no tuning to the ECU needed. If you're running larger injectors for a dry setup, you will need to reprogram the EPROM for the larger injectors.

JWT does sell a ECU for 95-96 NOSed Maximas. It retards the timing on the car. This is NOT needed to run NOS on a Maxima. The safest is to run a 50 shot. With wet systems, they require more tuning. If you want direct port, that is something a novice shouldnt even consider. Dry setup is teh safest way. If you want to NOS your car, i would get at least a CAI or HAI & a Y-pipe. Remember, NOS likes free-flowing setups.
