ghost ECU codes?

Has anyone heard of something like this, and is it possible? About a week or two ago my check engine light went on and off within the same day. I ran the codes and the code showed that my 5th cylinder was mis-firing ( I didn't clear the codes). I took max to the mechanic yesterday to run complete diagnostics and fix what ever was wrong and nothing came up. The car even ran right all day yesterday when he was driving it and testing it. Yet on the way home, I stopped at a light and the car started to "die" and was "bucking" when I was driving on the parkway almost like there was something blocking the air or gas passage. Even the pickup isn't what it used to be.
