Carbon Fiber Altezzas?

I gave it some thought and was wondering, if you could open up stock tails and modify them, you think you could open up Altezza tails and modify those? e.g. spray paint the chrome black for a black car or cover up the chrome with some carbon fiber vinyl roll. I was thinking it may look good, it may be just something different for tails, it could be a way if imitating skyline tails. I'm not planning on buying Altezzas at all, just wondering if anyone would actually attempt this so I could see. What do you guys think if this idea, sucks or no?

The '02 IS300s have black instead of chrome now. They look bada$$, I think these would also look nice on a Max.

someone on here tried thisone time and said that for some reason you cannot re-seal the altezza lights once you open them up. So if you feel like risking a new set of tails, try it out. I would only consider these if they came out in black chrome or maybe, just maybe carbon fiber, but definitly now the chrome ones, yuk!

YEA . THEY LOOK YUKY EVEN ON WHITE AND GREY,SILVER CARS.
WHY THEY CAN'T MAKE SKYLINE GTR R33 TAILS FOR MAXI'S AND THEN MAKE SOME TAIL KOVERS SO WE CAN PAINT IN OUR BODDY COLORS.
THEY DO FOR HONDA MITSU WHAT ABOUT US.

Hotwheels colors

What I'd like to see are the Altezzas in a colored chrome that matches the car's body color, like the colored chrome Hotwheels cars I had as a kid.

Oh really, I gotta check that out. Yea, they should make them in a series of colored chrome, or maybe carbon fiber.

I'm in the process of painting mine right now. I was able to crack them open and just finished painting the inners. I too have heard that putting them back together is going to be the hard part. I'm also trying to put together a How2 so I'll keep you guys posted. Oh and if you guys wanna see a preview let me know I'll show you a pic of them painted while still apart.

Ok just a couple of sneak peeks.
The lenses are a little dirty since I just took the tape off when I took these pics. They've got fingerprints all over them. My Max is black so it was real easy to match up. Let me know what you think but be nice.

I don't think the chrome would look to bad on the Champagne. The spray paint I bought came in a wide variety of colors you might be able to find some suitable medium.

Ok, that's the pic I've been looking for, the pic with them on the max. Well, it looks better than the chrome. They now kinda resemble Corvette taillights.

I'm the guy who tried this about 2 months ago with my altezzas. They looked the same as Ravq's, but when I tried to put them back together the lense would not stay in all the way. Every time I would take the clamps off the lights the lense would raise up about 1/4 inch. I tried it about 4 different times over a 2 week period and everytime had the same results, I ended up cracking the lense after 2 weeks so I just bought some new inners off ebay. Ravq, hope you have better luck than I did, if so let me know how you got the lense to stay down and sealed.

Well I've managed to get one of the inners seated properly but it did take some effort as I was unable to remove all of the original silicone. All I did was lay some new silicone sealant and heated it up with a heat gun and then installed the clear outer lens. I just kept heating it and clamped it all down. I left it clamped for 2 days and when I pulled the clamps off it sat pretty good. I'm more worried about the outer lenses since they have a curve to them.

RavQ: when you painted them, did you remove the red lense or just tape it off?? You got me thinking now of getting a set. Would you be willing to paint mine for say like $30 and ill pay shipping? hehe, let me know

Well, I barely have enough time to do my own plus I'm taking my time so that I don't break them. Let me finish them off completely first and I'll consider it. They are very easy to break and I'd hate to have to buy you a new set if I broke yours.

red lens

Oh and yes I removed the red lens but I wrapped it with aluminum foil and put it back to paint so that the part behind the red lens would still be reflective. It was easier wrapping it than trying to make a template.

Keep us posted i have a 99 white and i want to do this. I wonder if we can get a hold of the manufacturer and tell them to leave the main cover off and we can just use silicone to put it back together.

you should have painted the inner circle all red rather than leaving it 1/2 clear/red and maybe go over the other red lense to make them match.

Are you referring to me? If so, I left them like that cuz you can see my superwhite back up light with it clear.
