Installed Pacesetter STS today
Whew! What an chore!
On my 95SE, my bolts are so damn rusty. Took me about an hour and a half just to get all the bolts off (11 of 'em). I raised the front end on jack stands but there still isn't a lot of room to maneuver. My coworker says he would have put all four corners on jackstands but that to me is just too scary. Because I had just gotten my Cattman Y pipe installed this past summer by Meineke, the bolts to the front Cat was do-able. With that out of the way, the cat drops enough and has enough lateral movement to get the job done. On an older car, I can't see how you could muscle the shifter bolts off without at least freeing up the front of the cat.
I set the Pacesetter to shortest throw, ie. with the ball just covering the top of the threads. BTW, Pacesetter doesn't have a top sleeve to adjust the shifter rod height, but with the shortest throw setting, the shift **** ends up at a good height--about the same height that I cut down my stock shifter to, btw. After the new shifter was installed, spent the next 45 minutes trying to bang the Cat heat shield so that it would not contact the shifter hardware nor the Cat. After 4-5 trials, I decided it could not be done without cutting a hole, so I did what others have done and left it off entirely.
So far, I definitely like the shifting. I wish it required less force (and I do have redline MTL90) but the reduced throw is very much appreciated. Still have to get used to it but definitely a nice mod for the money--my very last mod on my baby, woohoo!

Whenever I'm installing parts, I always spray the bolts with Liquid Wrench to make them easier to break loose. Once they're off, I spray nut/bolt/studs with Amsoil lube to make it easier next time to break loose (prevents rust).
