Red/Clear tails are fading! YUCK

Ive had them on for maybe 3 months. At first they were TOO red (more red than the stock side) but now they are turning PINK. It doesnt look good. What do I do? Can i take them off and re-paint? I dont really want to, but maybe adding another coat would help?ugg

How many layers of paint did you use? I've had mine for over 2 years and just now starting to fade. Mine aren't even bad. I used 4-5 coats and 2 coats of clear coat.

Well if it were me I'd try to add a couple coats of paint and then the clear coats. But if you want you can clean the paint off first and start over. I guess it depends on how they look right now. Also, I just thought of something. Are you using plain white bulbs or red bulbs for your brake lights? I'm using red ones behind the painted portion to give me a deep red color close to stock lenses. Just a thought.

Did you paint the inside or outside of 'em ? Maybe you could try painting the inside that way they wouldn't fade. Also you could try painting the inside red with the spray to match with the outer peice better. Just a thought

Well be careful with the thinner. I've heard horror stories about the thinner warping the plastic lenses. I'd use more elbow grease then anything.

Actually I didnt do it. I had a hit and run, and it broke a tail light. I had the tails up in my room anyway so i said instead of getting a new tail light paint and install these after market ones for me. So they did. The guy said he didnt clear coat em but it should be fine or somthing. damnit.

im glad mine were done by David L, painted on the inside and look just as good as the day i bought them.
Im also using PolarG Hyper RED 1157 in both tail lenses to make them match perfect at night.

what type of spray did you use?????
theres the red spray paint (candy apple red) and then there is the spray paint that turns into fruit roll-up material that you can peel off if you don't like how it came out and start over again...
i have seen the peel off stuff and it looked like a good match up to me... where did you guy get your spray and for how much $$$...

I used Testors brand "transparent candy apple red model paint". It's only like $3 or $4.
