What Is The Fastest You Have Been In Your 4th Gen?

With all this talk of speed and speedometers, i got to thinking how fast has everyone been? I just hit 137 mph saturday with ming in my 97 se auto.

I have seen the video of the digital speedo at 145.

so what has everyone else done?

and no i am not saying my car is faster or the fastest car here. i am just curious to see what some of the ORG members top speed was.

thanks

~115mph with a speedometer thats usually 5mph off, so that makes it 120+

128 on the open Highway between Sedona and Phoenix. My car was so stable at that speed it made me want to go faster.

I've hit the 135 mark and stayed at it for almost 30mins straight. I was going from San Diego to Long Beach and it took about 50mins to go 100 miles. I raced a Dodge Avenger the whole way. It was awesome!!

Your speedo is in KM? Where in Canada do you live?

Indicated 138.

The speedo does not appear to have much error...if you do the math from RPM.

At any speed, in top gear, divide RPM by speed. You get the same ratio all the way up.

Yeah

The fastest I have gone was about 145 mph. This is an approximation because our damn gauge only goes up to 140. The 5th gen. goes up to 160. Anyways that was fun! I am deffinetly doing that again.

Hehehe thanks I realize that. I live in Canada. I think the USA is one of the few countries in the world still using the Imperial system over metric.

You can change the Km/h by dividing it by 1.6
Then 251/1.6=156.875~157

Look at my RPM and you will know how fast is my car

Well............

130 mph was the fastest for me in my 4th gen. (I chickened out) and in my 3rd gen SE 140mph. I was reallly happy with how planted the car felt at that speed, it was very reassuring. But then again all this money for suspension mods really pays off on the open highway, I'm sure others with modified Maxima suspensions will agree. Anyway 100mph is really nothing, what was surprising to me and was a big difference from my stock 3rd gen SE was hitting 130 so quickly. I have a 5 speed 4th gen and I was in 5th doing about 90mph when I crested a hill and saw nothing but 3 lanes of open highway in front of me (3 am 135 south in Long Island from exit 8 to exit 13). I never downshifted and I never floored it. I pushed the accelerator down a good way but didn't floor it and I got up to 130 rather quickly. Next time I'll try riding it hard and staying in 4th till redline.
Out of curiousity what is the top speed @ redline in 4th gear for a 4th gen 5 speed Max.

135 for half an hour!! Holy cow! That must be a record of some sort, at least for the maxima.org. What highway was it on? Gotta make sure I visit it on a future road trip. I'm sure everyone else, including myself, when we hit top speed, its for a short time. On one run, I held it at 140+ for 3 minutes. Stable like a rock. And you know those 3 minutes went by real fast!

im too scared to go fast. 1) i dont want to kill anyone and 2) i dont want a cop to get me. i only go for top speed on one road right in front of my neighborhood. OCCASIONALLY on the way back from school but i never never gotten over 120. 120 once, 115 a few times, 110 a few more and a good amount of 105s but then i wuss out.

I did mine at 1:30 pm on an open highway with a straight away about 6 miles long on a 2 lane road with no cars comming either direction. Yes, it was dumb. Yes, it was fun. Yes, I'll probably do it again. I would not advocate doing this in the day, nor would I advocate doing it at night. Durring the day there is more trafic, at night it is very dark. Pick your poision...(sp?)...Do you want to see whats comming up, or do you want to not have to worry much about other cars but not see the road as well?
