i reccomend the kenwood z828 head unit

or the panasonic CQ-DF801U

i dont reccomend double din. they are too expensive and very limited when it comes to the stuff you need if you are expanding your system. your paying for the lights when you can spend just as much or more likely less on a single din with all the options.

I had the Sony CDX-C910 - This is the earlier version of what mattdog above has. Great deck.

I also, interestingly, just upgraded to the Kenwood Z828 that is posted in the first reply.

And even thought the CDX-C910 sounded great, and costs $1200, the Z828 sounds even BETTER for $700, and it plays MP3's!!!

My theory on this is that the CDX-C90/C910 decks are for competition. They're so good that they seperate the frequencies TOO well, and you lose the "warm" feeling from well blended FQ Bands.
But that's only a theory.

Get the Z828...you can "Buy it Now" on Ebay for $489 like I did and install it yourself, or have a local shop charge you $700 for it and install it for you.

I wish I had some pics of my deck, but I don't...computer at home is down for now.

Actually, the Z828, which has been verified by not only myself but many of my friends to sound better than the $1200 CDX-C Series decks, has WAY more of a light show than the CDX-C Series decks.

But the CDX-C Series does still sound really good....very precise.

Some decks have both, is all I am saying...SQ and cool displays.

You wouldn't believe how good this Z828 sounds with my PPI Amps and Focal Seperates.

Why did you post that twice, puremax????

I just explained that the "light show" doesn't necessarily mean expensive...

Most EXPENSIVE decks are very low frills, and many of those aren't all that great. (Once again, not dissing the Sony, but the Kenwood does sound better)

Don't be misleading to the poor guy.

well, if you want my opinion, just get a name brand head unit that fits YOUR needs! my opinion should count since i am a stereo installer.

if you're looking for just a head unit and don't plan to amp your highs, just get a baseline pioneer or kenwood (or clarion, my pref)
that should work just fine for you. there's no need to buy a $700 cd player if you would be happy with $199.95 worth of features. if you were more specific with your question, it would be easier to distinguish what you want and make an educated suggestion.

basically, my advise to you is to go to a local shop with a good reputation, and let one of the salesmen guide you in the right direction. be carefull to stick to what you want, though. one of us might talk you up to an in-dash dvd player!!!! then you get home and look like

ok, airmattdog and iansw, since we all in da 206, I gotta see your rides, well at least listen to them!

I'm still at stock Bose deck and speakers. And though they sound nice, I wanna see what nicer (1k-2k, etc) sounds like.

actually i was looking for headunits that blended more with the interior, something that goes will with the light setup at nite, not a damn circus (AWIA) in my car

mrb23 - come by anytime.

One of the nice things about my Kenwood is it's different display modes...fireworks and jazz to show off with, and a "vanilla" setting that is simple and easy to read.

But I agree with J-95G...shop around...find what you like.
