Good headunit install kit?
Good headunit install kit?
I am trying to replace my bose hu with my Alpine single din hu in my 95 GLE. I used the Pac ROEM-NIS2 with no problems (sounds great!). So, as I was putting everything together, I realized that double din opening in the original fake wooden trim piece isn't wide enough for the hu with the metal sleeve to slip through! I got a Metra install kit 99-7409 (a pos quality kit by the way).
If I don't use the metal sleeve, the hu slips through the trim piece fine. But, without the metal sleeve the hu won't stay secured in the install kit. So, what I'm looking for is a single din install kit for the maxima that will work without the metal sleeve.
Any ideas?

My single DIN fit fine. If you use the preexisting dashboard pieces that hold the climate control in and what not it should have preexisting holes that fit the headunit. And as for the single DIN space, just find a generic single DIN slot online. I'll upload pics of what I mean in a second.
Here are some pictures:

Single DIN with the Single DIN Dash Pocket from JEvE.

These are the two metal brackets that I'm talking about. I used the same spots for the Single DIN as is used for the OEM headunit. It should work for you too.

Thanks for your reply. I don't know how I missed that the alpine hu lines up perfectly with those top two screw holes on the original bracket. My install kit still isn't any good (the din hole is too big), so I'm going to find another one that will work.
heres the thing: skip the install kit. just line up the holes on the metal brackets to the headunit and be done with it. The center console will line up fine with no gaps, then go out and find a generic dash pocket and line it up with the holes and mount it. Then your done and never needed a install kit. The only thing you'll need is a wire harness from the headunit to the nissan plug and be done with it. I can try and get you more general info if you need it.
