Stupid SES Light!

Just throwing this out on the forums to see if anyone has run into this before...

Driving down the highway going a "little faster" than the speed limit and I notice that evil yellow light has popped on. When I run the code it comes back as 05 05, which is nothing??? This has happened to me maybe four times in the past year , all while ascending or descending a hill at 90ish plus.. I believe that it probably is nothing since the light will be reset and won't come back at all, but any ideas as to what in the ECUs brain decides it wants to light the bulb up?

just throwing this out there but i've been getting the same code as well but it could be your o2 sensor.

I've been getting 05-05 for the past few months but i've also been getting 05-10 as well. I started getting 05-05 first though.

might be something worth looking into though. i've been resetting my ecu so i don't see the ses light on cause i haven't had time to go to my mechanic. it should be taken care of though within a week or so though.

also it has always come on for me while i've been on the highway as well just after coming off of an entrance ramp entering onto the highway. it normally comes on after a minute or two once i've just been on there.

Call me stupid, it's cool. Let me ask a question. redwagon, you get this code going alittle faster than speed limit and heading up or down hills. My first assumtion would be to check fluid levels. Maybe with all the fluids moving rapidly and thrashing back and forth in the reseviors and pans, the light pops on telling you that fluid is low. Because it will reset itself, might mean that the fluids are fine when not driving so aggressivly.

I could be VERY VERY wrong here!!!!!!

0505 has no meaning....your only real choice is to reset it as it comes on. It is still unknown as to what triggers it, but I am pretty sure its not what i30FlyHigh said.

lol, well when u think about it, taking off or slowing down would have more of a reaction to fluids moving around than when cruising at a constant speed. i have come to the conclusion that it is a ploy by nissan to pop the light on every once in a while so u can bring it to the dealer and pay them 100 bucks or w/e it costs to shut it off. despite the fact that they made that neat litle box by the gas pedal to check and reset it urself.

I got this one!

90ish is not going FAST enough .... geezz people ... comeon! LOL

Actually, I wouldn't worry bout it unless it is harming performance (by the sounds of it - it's NOT). There was a deal with Honda back in the day that they had the CEL come on after so many miles and it was a repeater code so you HAD to take the car in if ya didn't know how to clear it. Not just a ploy ... it happnes. How many people have NO clue how to even run a code much less clear it? The stealerships can make some bank off of 30 seconds of work if you let them. Poor suckaz that don't know.

I would live with it .. don't disconecct the CEL or you will not know if there really is something else wrong. Also ... I'd check the code every time to make sure it isn't a new one popping up. How often does this happen?

Yeah I'm not that worried about it either, I look for every little hick up the car may have and get it checked out when so. Since owning the car (a little over 15 months now) I believe it has come on three or four times with that code. Always on the highway, and always when going a little quicker than the cops would like you to. So as to happening often, not at all. Thanks for all the input thou!

Next time try using an obdII scanner and going under the function for "pending codes" instead of the ecu screw, different codes have a different 'detection logic', meaning they have to be experienced twice etc before they will be stored and illuminate the cel.
