If we are not supposed to use GL-5 rated tranny fluid, then why would they recommend Mobil 1 LS in the lube and oil section? I wrote a letter to Mobil1 via email and I received a response that said Mobil 1 gear oils are GL-5 rated and should not be utilized for my max? any comments would be useful.

 

Who said it was recommended?

Last I checked, all mobil 1 gear oils are GL-5 and have warnings against using them in synchromesh transmissions. Just get the Redline MT-90 or Amsoil GL-4 (MTG?) and then you don't have to worry about it.

Not trying to jack the thread... but my post count is too low, and need to start a thread. Can I get anyone willing to help me PM me or send an email to AustinTylerDean@gmail.com? Just bought a car, and Mr. Previous Owner Coolpants decided to put synthetic in it and run a bunch o' crap fuel system cleaner and octane booster, and the smog check came back with close to max NO ppm... PALEASE someone help?

 

I made this mistake a few years ago. I bought the Mobil 1 and put it in and then came back to the org and found out GL-5 is a . So I had to drain it all out at like 10pm that night. Drove to Summit Racing the next day and bought MT-90.
