Scoop on hood for SAI ???

Has anyone put a scoop on the hood with aashort Air Intake??? It seems pretty easy. Cut the hood right above and in front the intake. Bend down the hood making a nice openning. throw a cool scoop over the openning.

At the same time, I guess that same energy could be spent just puttin together the CAI.

Reinventing the wheel?? A waste of time??

Or you could remove the splash shield that is in front of the tranny. I did that and noticed my underhood temps have gone down a significant amount. Even with my IAT sensor, which just hangs in the engine bay, it showed a drop in temp, the fact that i can touch my intake manifold and strut tower bar after ive been driving it for 30-45 minutes is crazy..before my strut bar would literally burn my arm, now its cool where as the intake manifold is warm.

Take it for what it is, i know some splash sheilds are effective for cooling the car (MR2), but for the maxima, i think nissan just threw a piece of plastic there to look good lol..

according to my obdII and comparing to other cars with short-rams and splash shields my iat temps are about 30* lower, but that is far from being a controlled expirement, lolz, and the numbers might not be accurate either, but I wanna say my iat temps are about 30* lower than most

Yeah its far from being controlled. In my opinion and situation i noticed a big diff in underhood temps, but who knows, the engine bay always use to be hot, now its alot cooler, yes the weather has been a bit cooler, but weve had our 30C + days so i think it made a difference. My freind with his MR2 argued with me, because people who remove them on mr2's notice increase in temps, but i explained, that his car was designed in terms of aerodynamics and cooling, the maxima..not designed for the same reasons, the piece of plastic just hangs there and does not seem to do much other then look good and maybe keep out a bit of water, because the engine bay still gets a bit wet with or without it there.
