I bet i get flamed on this one... a neighbor down the street from me has a 96 Maxi and lost his only key (yeah, I laughed, scolded and then felt sorry for him However, he asked if a Nissan dealer could remake the key if he supplies the VIN. He has never changed the ignition switch (owned since 1999). Is this really possible?? Silly question, but his comment caused me to wonder...security issues???

 

yes, but if it has a transponder chip it will set him back like 120 dollars.

 

Maximas did not come with security chip immobilizers until mid-late 1999. He should be fine.

I have no idea what the dealership would charge for this service though. He might consider contacting fanaticrockford and see whether he is parting out a vehicle with the original ignition switch and door lock cylinders (front doors and trunk). Then, swap everything out.
