AWD conversion using G35x drivetrain

I saw this brought up a couple of times here. Is it even possible since the G35x is longitudinal? Has anyone looked into it?

Well it's a direct bolt up for the most part, just need the rear subframe from the G35x, and a half-size aluminum racing radiator for a CRX B16A swap, because the motor won't clear the stock rad.

Only problem is the G35x only comes in auto, so you'd have to get a trans from an R34 GT-R to have the 6MT.

Don't mind JtzMax, he's not up to date on the latest swap info.

sorry ... a bit upset this morning.

What about drive line? where are you gonna put a drive shaft and how will the G35 rear end clear the fule tank? I shouldn't say it "can't" be done ... but is it really worth it? It'd be expensive as all get out if you do it, so it may be more feasible to get a G35x for the same or cheaper money.

Cheers!

p.s. how much is this total project worth -vs- how much will it cost?

Well the 'exhaust' tunnel is more than large enough for a driveshaft, and if you use the R34's tank, the rear end/driveshaft will clear easily. If you can find a wrecked G35x, the swap can be done for <$3000, which I think is more than worth it.

Now chillin014, he went with the BNR-34 rear clip, which is pricey and not as easily available in the US. IMO, not exactly the smartest move, but as you can see the swap is relatively easy, compared to an Integra or such, whose chassis never came RWD from the factory as ours did in Japanese/Swedish markets.

Raxles will make custom axles to fit your hubs on the front and either the G35x auto trans or the R34 6MT, and honestly that's the hardest thing about the job, is finding those axles. I'd suggest giving them a call and seeing if those are still available from them as the first step to the project.

I knew that the 1st gen Max's came RWD .... but had no idea that they came that way later in life. With the G35x trans ... is there any retroing that needs to be done? I agree the exahust well is deep enough for a drive shaft .... but then where do you hang the exahust? Under the shaft is the only place I can think to do it .... and then, it'd be a tight squeeze I am guessing.

The exhaust can hang over top of the driveshaft (a la BMW, those ****ers), you could do side-exits, or get Nissan Cedric floorpans which has an area to route the exhaust piping.

GT-R clips are still pretty damn expensive, G35x's are at least available in the US (oops, assuming you're in the US) so no hassles with shipping the parts overseas.

Snawomes! Now that I know its possible, im going to order a G35 rear subframe and a quad turbo set up. Hopefully Harry can overnight it all from Japan for me. Anyone know where I can get custom piping? I want to run all four snails out of the trunk

I heard its about a 2 day swap and doesnt take much fabrication at all. just like pmohr said its a direct bolt on. typical cost of the project is about $2,000 which is pretty cheap.

Ok ... so you have 2 engines in your Maxima? WTF mate? lol I don't understand what it is that you did here. Did you just convert your FWD to RWD ???? Or ... did you actually make it AWD? Please clear this up for me (us).

As for making it AWD, you'll have to get a transfer case like in the G35x or GT-R (R32 - R34). That is gonna add weight, so you may consider bummin up the HP while your at it too.

Cheers!
