Funny Cricket Noises. You too?

Does anyone hear a cricket noise when you RPMs cross over the 2K RPM range during cold mornings? I especially hear it if the car has been sitting for a few days and then drive it. When I slow the RPMs from 2.5K to 1.9K RPMs, I hear it. It is a constant "cricket" sounding noise until the car is warmed up.

Any ideas? Specs: 95SE, Synthetic oil only, 70K miles, 5speed.

did you have your belts checked at 60k miles? if the belts are new i would say try spraying some silicone on them.. if they weren't changed.. then its time to change them..

start the car.. open the hood.. look on the left hand side of the engine.. have someone step on the gas.. try to isolate the noise..

Seriously, I am going to hazard a guess and say your timing chain is making noise. This appears to e a rather common thing in early production Maximas.

The belts are still the original ones. Due for a change soon, once I find a job. It is coming from the left side. When I am under the hood and revving the engine, I tend NOT to hear it b/c it is too noisy. It's one of those things that you hear better inside the car. Kinda wierd. Thanx for the info!
