Vac leak and wont run
Vac leak and wont run
Well recently i have been haveing problems with my 97. First off theres a mean vac leak that seems to be comming from the rear of the motor. Wat all should i check back there and is it possible to do it with the upper im on? Next would this vac leak be part of the reason that my car wont idle on its on. Please let me know a.s.a.p . TYI everyone.
yea ive recently learned that it will come from (most likely) the exhaust or the intake duct. so unbolt ur exhaust from the front of the cat and run the engine. if the problem persists then check your snorkle. you cant unhook it from the TB cause then the MAF wont recognize air and wont start. so just chaeck the filter and that other stuff for crap clogging the system.
if none of that then you might have to check the rip up the IM and inspect that ****.
prob a clogged exhaust though.
good luck

Check the hose thats on your mid pipe (intake) that leads to your IACV -->may have a crack, I don't think Exhaust has anything to do with ur car not running or a vacuum leak.>>good luck

...yep.
Snorkel is nowhere near the MAF or TB, it goes from the front of the car into the lower airbox.
The A32USDMIM (
) isn't all that hard to remove, but have you tried finding the leak at all yet? Smoke machine, propane, anything?Could be intake ducting, EGR guide tube, UIM gasket, LIM gaskets, TB or IACV gasket, a number of things. Best is to get in there and actually look for it.
And yes, a large vacuum leak will cause an unstable idle and a large enough one could cause the motor to not run (large being like removing the IACV with no block off plate or similar).

if there is no vacuum then there might be a clogged exhaust. cause there is no where for the air to flow out to. in which case there would be low pressure and a ****tay idle

Check the EGR Guide tube. When i had my intake manifold off, the egr gasket slid off, so i tighted it down..and the car ran like pure crap..id would struggle to idle and die after 10-15 seconds or so.
Yes a vacuum leak will cause it to idle bad, reason being is you are taking in un-metered air. The MAF is not measuring this air so it is throwing everything off.
Other then the EGR guide tube gakset, check the IACV. You will have to remove it anyways to access the EGR guide tube..its only 3 bolts, 4 if you count that one bracket that is in the way for removing 1 of the bolts. Once you have that off, it has a metal gasket, id just check it over and make sure its good, then you can access the EGR guide tube, its kinda a PITA but you can access it with the IM on. Be careful when bending it backwards to access the gasket, it can break, so dont reeef on it.
One way of trying to spot the leak..grab a can of TB cleaner or something equivilant and just spray it where you think the leak is, if you notice the engines revs change in any way then thats probably where the leak is.
Have you checked and made sure all the vacuum lines are connected? Also have you had the IM off recently or done any work involving removing vacuum lines?
