Strange Sound under heavy acceleration

When ever accelerating through 1st and 2nd gear full throttle i would here this loud air leaking sound like compressed air spraying from an air compressor. It's never been that bad and it only happened rarely i don't really floor my car that much also. But the other day i was getting on the freeway and in second gear the sound got extremely loud and the car lost almost all power and i couldn't accelerate over 60 under normal throttle the car would maintain speed but as i gave it more the sound would get louder and the car would slow down . I can't tell where the sound is coming from the engine or the exhaust but the engine isn't any louder so i don't think it's an exhaust leak. Does anyone have any idea what this is?

x2, maybe a cracked line if it used to only occur under heavy accel, sounds like a big one to if its having that much effect on your performance, i would find it soon as it'll be leaning out your mixture a lot. just throw her in the garage and pop the hood with it running and just listen, if you can't hear it have someone rev it a bit while you go around the engine listening.

Everything you said sounds exactly like what my car was doing when my muffler was filled with gas, until it violently exploded on the highway. I bet your muffler is rotted out inside and occasionally gets plugeed up, that's just my internet diagnose, there are ways verify.
