Anyone ever knew what causes the clock to go bad...

I have been having having problems with this clock for a while now First, off I had cleaned the fuse and put back in there to use it again and i was hoping that the clock won't reset and fade away and it was working utill I started the car and driving it around and the clock started to reset and the clock faded away. I bought a new fuse then put it in the car started working fine then I started the car and turned my headlights on the clock faded as if it were my battery dieing on me. I noticed that the clock does not reset now but just fades and comes back. I am thinking of buying a new clock and I noticed the clock gets hot at some points. I know it should not get that hot and I don't know if there any wires that are heating up or melting anyone with any of these symptoms. let me know thanks.

yeah i noticed the clock is a typical problem that we occur in the max, don't know why though. my clock went out about year and half ago, before it went out, it would come on for a bit then turn off then come on 20mins later. finally one day it just gave away. i would check the wiring of the clock make sure there's no shorts. good luck

bad ground in the clock itself. Nissan is infamous for this flaw and all I can say is that in my 91' Maxima and 91' Stanza ... same clock (and it was a PIA to change!!!! OMFG) both clocks were bad ... same symptoms, fade - on and off - then it'd work for a day, then not again for a week .... same crap. At least this clock (4th gens) is easy to change out. Don't go to the STEALERSHIP to get one, unless you are rich and in that case ... well, I can think of much better ways still to spend your money.

I would check with Fanatickrockford and see if he has one ... I bet he does.

Cheers!

I took out the clock and looked for any hot or short wires. I did not see anything short thank god but I am coming to a conclusion that the clock is bad as you guys are saying. Does anyone knows how much the clock goes for from Nissan.
