i have a tapping noise at start up and it goes away after it warms up. i think a pully or chain tensioner is bad or i have a lifter tapping, im not sure.

the timing chain is loose. the tensioner needs to be tightened.

forget performance....
dude a loose timing chain means your car is near death. if that slips or comes off while the engine is running then you are going to need a new engine. my uncle actually just did this on his 02 volvo last week. gonna cost 3800 bux to replace 9 of the valves.

if it is the timing chain then the next time you start the car should be on your way to the mechanic/dealership. dont drive it anywhere except for there.
