1995 Maxima Diagnostic/tuning

I've been look around for stuff to allow interfacing my '95 maxima's ECU and a laptop (or carputer). Now, I really haven;t come up with anything.

I was looking at OBD-II interfaces, but it looks like the 95 max doesn't have OBD-II?

Also I guess there aren't really any replacement ECU's for the max, so I was looking at the megasquirt ECU which appears to be a fully tuneable replacement ECU for any car (thus its a ***** to work with initially... as its not even close t oa drop in replacement).

Does anyone have experience with any of the above things, or have any info?

ALL A32'S ARE OBD-II.

That being said, there are several replacement ECUs for the A32, or more appropriately reflashes of the stock unit. TS, JWT, etc. Megasquirt is kinda unknown territory for the most part, two or three VQ30 guys are running it right now.

EU is the best piggyback you can really get for the price, damn near a full standalone with all of its features.

Search, some info on megasquirt around here.

Thanks,

I was looking at those alternate ECU's... Too bad I don't have the money, But at least I can toss an OBD-II reader together and get some info...

Maybe I'll go for the megasquirt down the line, but right now, I don't know nearly enough about fuel injection etc. to be able to use it properly...

I know what your talking about. I have a ECU USB cable. It cost me about 25 dollars off ebay, but it was used. I use ECU talk as the reader program, simple but works great, even displays the MPG.

Here is a pic of the one I have

I have it under the dash and ran the USB cable around the passenger seat, they sell new for about 55 dollars on ebay. So fair its been a great investment!

Thats pretty cool. I'm going to build this one: http://www.obddiag.net/projects.html

Its pretty simple and I have most of the parts (and I do so enjoy exploiting the sample system for IC's...). IC's are on the way, and I'll place an order from jameco to get the crystal and the headers.

All 4th gens are OBDII 95-99. I know the 95's have an OBDI connector on the drivers side and an OBDII connector on the passengers side.

It's not an OBD-I connector, it's a Consult port.

You can use any OBD-II ISO 9141-2 (IIRC) compatible scanner on the A32. It's fully OBD-II compliant.

Consult's better though.

Good times.

That is pretty sweet. I will have to try it. What is the protocol for our cars and do they sell the programmed chips?
