How old is the garage door motor? If its over 20 years old, its probably not compatible to work w/ the Homelink feature.

Are you pressing the "learn" button on your door opener?? Most common issue, make sure you follow the directions from your door opener (2yr old opener should work, but rolling code requires extra step)

Pull the car directly under the opener. There is a small button on the opener called "learn". Press it and then run the Homelink learn sequence. I got mine to work that way. Following the directions from Homelink didn't include setting the opener to learn mode.

Ahhh I had the same problem with my '97 maxima and my garage door opener. We just built a new garage this past summer. I ended up contacting homelink and they told me that the 2 were not compatible. The homelink on my '97 uses one code and the new style garage door openers use a "rolling code". They only way around this is to purchase some sort of universal code changer. You attach it to the garage door motor and it will receive the code transmitted from your car. It will then change the code to "trick" the motor into believing that the proper code has been sent. Presto, your garage door is opening. About 50 bux at home depot.

hope that helps.
here's their contact info.

As degeesaman said, I had the best luck programing in my garage. The Homelink unit is just a universal remote control, so once it is locked into the remotes freq you have to get the door opener to sync with it. The old dip switch door openers are super easy once the homelink and the remote sync your set. The newer "rolling code" units need the extra step. If you have the instructions for your opener, program the remote to the homelink and then treat the home link as a "new remote" and program it to the opener. If you don't have the instructions you may have to try a few times to make it work. The last one I setup was easy, program the home link and then press the "learn" button on the opener until the light came on, then press the programed button on the home link. Light flashed and the door opened.

if you have a house symbol on ur homelink in the maxipad, then it would be compatible. if not, you're stuck like me and need to go to a junkyard and get a visor with a compatible homelink to use!
