Major dilema...need advice
Ok, so I recently just brought my 96 5 speed to boulder nissan to have a suspicious noise(ratcheting noise)checked out that happens only when the clutch is not depressed. They told me I need to have my transmission replaced which runs around $2700 labor included. I contacted the independent warranty company from which I purchased the warranty from when I bought the car. They sent out a claims inspector from Denver to see if the tranny would be covered. Turns out all my mods void the warranty(as seen in fine print on the back of the warranty) and the tranny is not covered.
So what I'm going to do now is get a second opinion. But if it turns out i do need a new tranny i'm faced with a huge dilema.
1.) Should I pay for a new tranny which will only be warrantied for a year? Do I want to keep my car for a long enough period of time to make it worth paying for a new tranny.
or
2.) Should I buy a new car that will be warrantied for another 3+ years?
I have had my car for three years and I have enough money to do either option. My parents are leaving the option up to me for I am 21 now and SHOULD be able to make wise decisions. But this one is hard, can you guys throw me some advice?
P.S. If I do decide to sell my car I would be willing to swap my after market parts to people, preferably in the denver area, for their stock parts and a small price. Thank You
